TIRANA, Jan 12 /ATA/ Minister of Finance and Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, stated on Thursday that the decision to suspend the work of the Transparency Board for fuel prices is under discussion.
In a televised interview, Ibrahimaj said that, as the prices have become stable, that is, there are no large fluctuations, we have started the process of decisionmaking to suspend the activity.
“The board was established to limit the profit in order to have a price as low as possible for consumers. The 12-month profit analysis of the fuel trading companies shows that the profit margins set in the normative act are significantly lower than those that the companies applied in a period of liberalized prices. I think that this period has also set the stage for the market operators to have some kind of discipline that will continue in the future,” said Ibrahimaj.
The minister pointed out that price oversight will continue in order to prevent speculation.
Regarding the extraordinary tax on energy generation companies, Ibrahimaj announced that the first installment will be collected by March 31 of this year. Meanwhile several scenarios are being drawn up to determine how these revenues will be redistributed to offset as much as possible much the impact of the crisis.
