TIRANA, Dec 13 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ The Chairwoman of the HJC, Nureda Llagami, participated on Tuesday in the conference “Consolidation of the High Judicial Council” which focused on justice reform.
Llagami said that “today we are closer to the vision of a justice where all citizens are confident that they will be treated fairly and equally according to the law and an independent, ethical and efficient judicial system.”
The Chairperson of the HJC underlined that in 4 years, 80 new judges have joined the judiciary.
“The achievements so far are tangible, visible, but also measurable in quantity and quality terms. The HJC has two challenges ahead, the functioning of the system and the great challenge of leadership. One of the major priorities from the first day of transitional evaluation was guaranteeing the functioning of the judicial system, starting with the High Court, the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime and the Court of Appeal. In this context, the council re-set to operation the High Court by replenishing the judicial body with 15 judges and soon with 19 judges,” she said.
Llagami stated that every judge in the system has gone through the re-evaluation process with a final decision, adding that more than 100 judges have been evaluated and more than 200 reports have been drawn up.
In addition to the judges, she said that the HJC has paid special attention to the judicial administration.
“The increase in the number of judicial administration has been followed by enhancement of service in the courts. Independence and accountability must go hand in hand together,” – said Llagami.
