PRISTINA, December 13 /ATA/ The US special envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar stated that the Republic of Kosovo has very strong security guarantees from the United States.
In an interview for REL, when asked on how the United States of America appreciates the statement of the Serbian President Aleksandër Vučić regarding the return of Serb forces to Kosovo, Escobar said that the USA categorically opposes this.
“We categorically oppose it. We categorically reject this. We do not support this at all. I also want to say that Kosovo has very strong security guarantees from the United States”, said Escobar.
On the other hand, the barricades on the roads in the north of the country continue and the situation has been tense since the weekend, although for the time being, the situation is reported to be calm. But, what would be the reaction of the USA if Belgrade really did launch an armed incursion in the north of Kosovo, Escobar said that he does not expect such a thing to happen.
“First, I don’t expect this. Second, I repeat, Kosovo has very strong security guarantees from the United States, as shown through its participation in the KFOR”, Escobar stated. /REL/p.s./
