EU-Western Balkan summit, Rama: Security measures are non-negotiable

TIRANA, December 1 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the security measures that will be taken on December 6, when the European leaders are expected to arrive in Tirana to participate in the EU-Western Balkans Summit, will be strict and in coordination with the forces and organizers of the Summit that are in the European Council.

Speaking to reporters after meeting of the government regarding the warning of a protest by the opposition on the same day, Rama said that the security measures are non-negotiable.

“As for the security measures, they are non-negotiable. They are security measures based on the standards and rules established by the European Council itself and that the same measures are applied everywhere during activities. Our security forces work with the forces and organizers of the Summit that have been in the European Council for a long time, precisely for security measures. These are not matters of thoughts, discussions, or opinions, but strict security measures, even more so in the situation when all EU leaders will come here, as has never happened before and certainly, there are measures for their strict security, whenever and wherever they move”, stated Rama.

The prime minister also denied that December 6 will be a holiday.

“December 6 will be a normal working day. No decision has been taken on any day off. It’s fake news, work will continue normally,” he said.

Asked again what would happen if the opposition does not withdraw from its demand for protest, PM Rama stated that there is an activity that is the most important in the country’s international history.

“There are no parties that withdraw or do not withdraw. Here is an activity that is the most important in the international history of the Republic of Albania or Albania before it became a Republic. It has never happened that the whole continent leaders come to Albania in a clear expression of respect for Albania and in support of that line, already crystallized, that sees Albania as a key factor in Europe and because of the region in function of Europe. The stories of 1912 unfortunately continue but, they are issues that we cannot avoid. On the other hand, they cannot take Albania hostage, let alone a summit of these dimensions. This is not a decision of the Albanian government. This is a matter of the security of the Summit and the guarantee of all required security measures for all leaders and delegations from all over Europe”, concluded Rama./p.s./
