TIRANA, Nov. 24/ATA/-The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) where the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) is a full member, decided to buy a power generator to the Ukrainian news agency, Ukrinform, in order to keep its services running.
Ukrinform is also a full member of the EANA alliance.
The Board of EANA has been informed by Ukrinform’s director general, Oleksandr Kharchenko that the Ukrainian news agency is fearing a complete blackout during the incoming freezing winter, and therefore is in great need of a power generator in order to keep the agency’s services running (including their very important newswire).
“We are infinitely grateful for everything that the Alliance and each of you have done for us during this war. However, we are facing another challenge, a complete blackout during the frost that has already started to become a reality.
Under such conditions, the agency will not be able to operate, and all the journalists, editors and other employees of the agency will not be able to work. We will not be able to inform the world about the most brutal and large-scale war of this century.
To ensure at least minimal working conditions, we need an IMMEDIATE purchase of a diesel generator (a 20 kVA 50 Hz three-phase generator (a 25 or 30 kVA generator is even better), enclosed in a canopy).
Unfortunately, we do not have the funds for this. In addition, due to the peculiarities of Ukrainian legislation and a huge shortage of generators in Ukraine, we will not be able to pay for the generator through our bank account in Ukraine.
The only option is that the generator to be purchased by our partners abroad through aid funds and then handed over to Ukrinform.
We know for sure that such generators are made in Germany, the United Kingdom and other countries – the brand or manufacturer does not matter, the only thing that matters is time. We really hope you can help us”, Kharchenko’s letter writes.
The cost of the generator would be between 9.500 euros and 11.500 euros.
