Opposition DP rejects planned spending for agriculture under 2023 state budget

TIRANA, Nov 23 /ATA/- The main opposition Democratic Party rejected the next year’s state budget for agriculture on Wednesday, saying the proposed bill contained distorted figures and spending that have nothing to do with agriculture sector.

The head of the DP’s Department for Agriculture, Gjok Vuksani said in a press statement that “the 2023 state budget projects spending that have nothing to do with the agriculture sector and farmers.

“The government is forgetting the cyclical damages affecting farmers and livestock owners due to the floods battering various parts of the country, as it was the case with the districts of Durres, Shkodra and Lezha most recently,” Vuksani said.

He published a series of what he called distorted figures about the agriculture sector and spending that has nothing to do with farmers and agriculture.

“The proposed spending is estimated at around 466 million lek and not a single investment project is envisaged. It is this government’s style to spend instead of investing, because it is not interested in the country’s development and well-being. The country will continue to be flooded, because with the proposed budget it would take 17 more years for the Ministry of Agriculture to build and rehabilitate embankment,” he stated.
