Archival Corner opens in Thessaloniki

TIRANA, November 20/ATA/ The General Directorate of Archives opened the newest archival corner, in Thessaloniki, as part of its commitment to offer the same research opportunities in archival documents. From now on, thanks to the cooperation between the Archives and the local community of Thessaloniki, compatriots there will be able to access historical materials, in the same way as if they were present in the study hall in Tirana.

Head of the Archives, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Ardit Bido inaugurated the archival corner and made the presentation of the online platform.

The community members were present among the local officials. Luan Zyka, members of this community and representatives of the General Consulate of the Republic of Albania in Thessaloniki were also attending.

In his speech to the media, Bido said that through the newly inaugurated Archival Corner, it is intended to facilitate access to documentation.

“We are opening a study hall in Thessaloniki, as we have done in all the main cities of Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, in the municipalities of Arbëresh in Southern Italy, so that everyone who has a study interest in the State Archives of the Albanians, neither needs to pay through the online service, nor be forced to come to Tirana, but can freely access the archival documentation, just as if they were in Tirana. For years, we have set up a Study Hall conceived as an electronic platform located in a physical space, which enables the virtual relocation of this platform wherever Albanians live”, said Bido.

Meanwhile, Zyka evaluated the initiative as original and useful for the use of the national documentary wealth.

This initiative is nationwide and has so far been extended to dozens of cities, inside and outside Albania. The archival corner of Thessaloniki is the second in line in the territory of Greece, after the study space opened in Hania, in February of the current year./p.s./
