Çuçi: One- stop shop on Qafë-Thana border

TIRANA, Nov  14 /ATA/  – By  I. Vata/- Minister of Interior, Bledi Çuçi, stated that the signing of two agreements, the creation of a joint Task Force to fight organized crime, and the opening of a joint customs point between the two countries are very important for deepening the cooperation between Albania and North Macedonia.

In his speech at the intergovernmental meeting of Albania and North Macedonia, Çuçi emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries.

“The fruit of this cooperation, of course, are two documents that we have brought to sign today that are about an intensification of bilateral relations in the fight against crime and increasing the security of the two countries, as well as another document that is important to implement the agreement we signed for the joint border crossing point in Qafë-Thane”, he said.

Çuçi added that the agreement that we will sign is of special importance because it develops a very important legal instrument in order for the law enforcement agencies of the two countries to coordinate their work as part of the joint actions in the field of security and especially in organized crime.

“The agreement on the establishment of a joint tax force in the field of security that we will sign today creates a space for the police of both countries to cooperate effectively in order to fight crime and especially organized crime that  has neither nationality nor citizenship and many times is one step ahead of state institutions. This agreement made it possible without the need for protocols to exchange information and create joint teams to address concrete issues related to organized crime,” he said.

Çuçi emphasized that the second document is intended to render applicable the agreement reached a year before for the opening of the one-stop shop on the Qafë-Thana border.

“This is a model that we are successfully applying with Montenegro and Kosovo and I believe that it will bring about a completely new reality in our goal to guarantee free movement of people and goods between the two countries, be it  the vision of the “Open Balkan” instrument or of the Berlin process.
