Fiscal package 2023, zero VAT on energy sold through ALPEX

TIRANA, Oct 13 /ATA/ The Albanian government will exempt from VAT on import the electricity destined to be sold through the Albanian Energy Exchange (ALPEX).

According to the draft package made available to ATA, the fiscal package that MoFE proposes to be implemented for 2023 stipulates that the liability to pay VAT will be charged on the taxable person, for whom the electricity supply is carried out through the reverse charge mechanism.

ALPEX is set to become operational at the end of November this year.

The Albanian Electricity Exchange, known by its trade name ALPEX, was founded on October 5, 2020, with the signing in Pristina of the agreement between the administrator of the TSO, Skerdi Drenova, and the chief executive officer of the Kosovo Transmission, System and Market Operator, Ilir Shala.

ALPEX is expected to guarantee more transparency and competition in the electricity market, as well as more efficient use of cross-border capacities.
