DP: Draft law bars offshore companies from benefiting public contracts

TIRANA, Oct 7 /ATA/ MP Agron Shehaj submitted Friday to the Parliament of Albania, on behalf of the Democratic Party, the draft law which bars all offshore companies with anonymous owners from benefiting public contracts in Albania.

“This draft law is designed to crack down on corruption and make sure that shell companies with secret beneficial owners, behind which are power holders, are not awarded public contracts and concessions,” DP said in a media briefing.

MP Shehaj emphasized that prohibiting the offshore companies from accessing public funds is an approach that has recently started to be adopted by countries that are ahead of the curve in the fight against corruption.
The DP MP called on all colleagues, including those in the majority, to stand above their political interests and approve this legal initiative in order to end corruptive affairs through offshore companies.
