TIRANA, October 6 /ATA/- Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Olta Xhaçka received in Tirana the Informal Working Group of the UN Security Council on Documentation and Other Procedural Questions (IWG).
The Albanian chief diplomat emphasized that the world does not have the luxury of affording a Security Council that is unable to perform its primary task, which is to guarantee world security and peace.
“It is unfortunate that in many cases the Security Council appears to be dysfunctional. Sometimes it is paralyzed and unable to act just when the world needs it the most. I am talking about the unprovoked aggression against Ukraine being carried out by a member of the Security Council. This is indeed a very bitter irony. Russia is abusing with its role as the guardian of world peace and security by blocking the Council for the sake of its illegal expansionist agenda and a direct attack on the order based on international rules”, said Minister Xhaçka.
For 3 consecutive days, official representatives of the member countries of the Security Council, selected researchers and representatives from the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD) will gather in Tirana to share ideas, positions and opinions on the advancement of the working methods of Council. Accredited ambassadors in Tirana also took part in the reception organized by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs./p.s./
