“Working land at school,” novel program launched by MES

TIRANA, Sept  26 /ATA/  “Working land at School” is the novel program of the Ministry of Education and Sports, which aims to connect students with the land, cultivation and agricultural production, through micro-farms and mini-green houses in school environments.

This program started off with the “Luigj Gurakuqi” Special School, in Tirana, which from now on will have a contemporary mini-green house where its students with special needs will learn how to grow flowers and plants, so that in the future  they possess skills they can use after finishing school.

Present at the opening ceremony of this mini-green house, Minister of Education and Sports Evis Kushi said that this is an excellent model and an extraordinary contribution, which will be replicated in other schools.

The minister thanked the partners in this project, the organization “Beyond the Barriers” and the bank “Credis”, which through the first voluntary fundraising platform in Albania “SMILE” funded this project.

Gardening has many health benefits for people with disability. This mini-green house will be a safe and inclusive environment for students to carry out hands-on activities and improve their motor skills, teamwork, self-confidence, communication and other life skills, expand their knowledge of horticulture and how to grow flowers and vegetables.

This environment will also serve to promote a healthy lifestyle, will stimulate group work through activities for children and their parents, as well as volunteers.
