Over 200,000 workers benefit minimum wage hike

TIRANA, Sept 14 /ATA/ – More than 200,000 private sector employees across Albania will benefit a minimum monthly wage hike to 34,000 lek from 32,000 lek under the latest  crisis assistance package launched by the Albanian government to protect population from the rising prices.

The Council of Ministers approved Wednesday the decision to increase the minimum monthly wage to 34,000 lek from 32,000 lek.

Announcing the decision at a press conference following a regular cabinet meeting, the Minister of Finance and Economy Delina Ibrahimaj recalled the fact that this is the second increase in the minimum wage, after having been raised to 32,000 lek from 30,000 lek under the government’s first anti-crisis package earlier this year.

“Under today’s decision, the minimum monthly wage will be 34,000 lek. The decision affects more than 200,000 workers all over the country,” Ibrahimaj said.

The Finance and Economy Minister noted that “over 900,000 Albanian citizens benefit from the pension and minimum wage hike under the two government decisions today.”
