TIRANA, Sept 13 /ATA/ The chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, said on Tuesday that “the SP supports the current territorial division with 61 municipalities and 12 districts.”
In a media briefing after the meeting of the parliamentary group, Balla responded to the journalists about the SP’s proposal for territorial reform.
“There have been proposals for both reducing and increasing the number. 7 years after the last reform, results are tangible, the online service has improved, so we have concluded that our position in the adhoc commission is to stick to the current division with 61 municipalities and 12 regions, ” said Balla.
While the co-chair of the Commission for Territorial Reform, DP MP Dhurata Çupi said that “the decision of the SP not to change the territorial map is a mockery of the citizens who want to change the map.”
“It is a mockery of the partners who engaged in the process. It is a mockery of the parliament. It is a waste of citizens’ taxes, for a process predetermined by the will of Edi Rama. Edi Rama is afraid to face a real electoral battle and demands a result on the table. He has done so in every election. When he changed the territorial map in 2015, when he unilaterally changed the electoral system. Edi Rama is afraid of the vote. The citizens’ answer will be the referendum. We will ask for a referendum on changing the territorial map. No one can stand above the will of the voters,” said Çupi./m.m/sm/
