Rama: Let’s improve standards in education through sharing thoughts with people beyond borders

TIRANA, September 12/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that protection of the Albanian language and education with the best contemporary standards is the most powerful tool to ensure continuity on the road to prosperity.

The National Education Congress focused on the challenges of quality and all-embracing education of Albania 2030.  The Congress brought together in a discussion space many actors in the field of education, including pre-university education, higher education, scientific research, agencies, local and international partners , representatives of civil society and donors in the field of education.

Rama quoted the Renaissance man Dervish Hima who at the second Congress of Manastir said: “We are all Albanians; we all have one blood, one language, one homeland and one goal, which is: the progress of the Albanian nation”.

“Hima began like this his speech at opening of proceedings of the second Congress of Manastir, where the most prominent minds of the nation gathered to unify the Albanian language. When more than a century has passed since the congress, a cornerstone that focused on language and education as the strongest weapon for the progress of the nation, we gather in a joint congress of education of international proportions for its further development. Of course, very modest in terms of weight compared to that of Manastir, but which at its core has the same concern, the progress of the Albanian nation”, said Rama.

According to him, “It is enough for everyone to spend an hour on online channels to see what is happening with the Albanian language, with the punctuation marks, wording, spelling of Albanian and as the younger generation is involved in technology in a dizzying way, the language is more endangered and on the other hand this happens to all languages that today are under the pressure of the great consumption of words to communicate.”

“It is up to us to find ways and seek through a broad dialogue between us, ways to strengthen the position of the Albanian language in this linguistic and communicative chaos, where the whole world is involved. We must see with concern the necessity to raise the standards of education; it is a very great urgency even for developed countries.

What is certain is that today we need more than before to unite our minds beyond the borders of Albania, but in all space where Albanian is spoken”, said Rama.

The prime minister said that it is up to us to see with concern that the necessity to increase the standards of education and to measure these standards with the framework of the best contemporary standards is an ever greater urgency.

“In the same way, when the entire process of teaching and learning is under the ever-increasing pressure of technological transformations, the book becomes more and more foreign to people and children in particular, and the communication paths becomes more and more chaotic and uncontrollable”, he added.

On the other hand, Rama assessed that the Albanian encyclopedia, the big dictionary of the language and the basic book of the history of Albanians are projects that have entered the phase of their materialization.

“It is unfortunate that for many, many years we did not have this opportunity, but on the other hand the good news is that today the way has been paved to have these very fundamental books for our nation, our academic world and for other generations. These ate open books that each generation enriches and improves, but today there are big gaps in this path, where the effort for the language must be comprehensive”, said the prime minister./p.s./
