TIRANA, Sept 12 /ATA/ The spokesperson of the Democratic Party, Floriana Garo, said on Monday that “the new school year 2022-2023 starts on a worse footing as compared to before.”
“This year starts with 226 thousand less students in 15 years. This year over 700 schools of primary, secondary and tertiary levels have been closed throughout the country, while 90% of the country’s schools have no access to heating system and running water, while funds are embezzled and schools are built with 4-5 million euros, that is, 7-8 times higher than in Europe,” said Garo.
According to her, “the school year starts with shift-based learning for 150,000 students and collective classes for over 50,000 students.”
“This year starts at a time when Albanian teachers are the most overworked and underpaid in the region. Condemning in the strongest possible terms the dire situation in which the educational system in Albania begins work this year, the Democratic Party invites students, their parents and teachers to rise in protests against the regime that is destroying the educational system,” said Garo.
