Opposition lawmaker: Increasing electricity price is unacceptable

TIRANA, Sept 9 /ATA/-By I.Vata/  – Main opposition Democratic Party lawmakers Jorida Tabaku and Arbi Agalliu rejected as unacceptable the energy saving measures revealed by the  Albanian government a day ago, adding that the government’s anti-crisis assistance package was insufficient.

In a press statement, lawmaker Tabaku said that the government just kept complaining, failing to provide any solution.

“Has the government developed any energy diversity and generation policies? This government has failed to develop any policies, and instead it just keeps complaining without offering any solutions. Does the government plan to determine a price sailing for the energy purchase, even by cooperating with other countries in the region? The government should have had imposed extra taxation on the additional earnings of the oil and energy companies and redistribute the tax collections to citizens and businesses, just like every European country is doing,” Tabaku said.

She also said that the government acted too late and it should have had announced measures since last August or September.

“The only measure the government took was to launch new tenders and concessionary contracts. The government should immediately freeze all the tenders. The government adopted an incomplete assistance package of 50 million euros only,” she added.
