TIRANA, Sept 5 /ATA/ – The head of the Albanian Power Corporation (KESH) Ergys Verdho stated that the country will not face power shortages due to the energy crisis during the upcoming winter season, adding that floating power plants will help in boosting energy production at the Triport area in Vlora.
Verdho said in a TV interview that although the situation is critical, the power utility has succeeded in meeting the domestic demand by resorting to the use of the electricity reserve anytime the power price soars in the international market.
He said that the Corporation has not purchased electricity in the last three weeks. He added that the electricity import is estimated at around 300 million euros to date, but it could have had jumped to over 500 million euros.
“The government of Albania has injected capital to the Corporation to ensure sufficient liquidity and purchase electricity when the power prices are favourable,” he said.
Verdho informed that the floating power plants are currently in the Mediterranean and are expected to arrive in Vlora between September 9 and 15.
The offered thermal generating asset consists of two floating vessels in which are mounted generators for the electricity production with a total installed capacity of 114 MW hours.
