More than 60 thousand visitors to Rozafa Castle

TIRANA, September 4/ATA/ Rozafa Castle in the Northern Albanian city of Shkodra has recorded a high number of visitors during January-August period.

Shkodra Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage said that the Rozafa Castle remains one of the most visited tourist destinations in all of Albania, where during the period January-August 2022 it was visited by 69,000 visitors.

Visitors to the Rozafa area have continued recording positive progress during August 2022 and compared to the previous year 2021, reflecting a significant increase in local and foreign visitors. 10,657 visitors chose to visit it during August, 5,702 more visitors than during the same period in 2021.

Rozafa Castle in 2021 was visited by over 51 thousand local and foreign tourists. The requalification of the Rozafa castle through lighting, an investment by the Ministry of Culture, has turned it into a tourist attraction, visitable by local and foreign tourists even in the evening.

In the surrounding walls of the castle, which extend over an area of about 9 hectares of land, there can be clearly distinguished constructions of four periods: the Balshais (14th century), the Venetian occupation (15th century), the Ottoman occupation (16th-17th centuries) and the Bushatlins (XVIII-XIX centuries). Built during the Illyrian Kingdom, it is represented by a legend that shows the keeping of a promise, the legendary Albanian oath of trust (Besa)./k.s/p.s./
