Kurti: No other alternative, but vetting

PRISTINA, September 4 /ATA/ Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that the justice reform cannot be completed without the vetting process while ensuring that the institutions prevent crime, courts give well-deserved sentences, prisons rehabilitate convicts, and citizens restore faith in law and order and feel safe.

Kurti said in a press conference that the draft law on the vetting is now in the Assembly, where he hopes to cooperate with other political entities for its approval.

He also mentioned the case of the crime in which the victim was an 11-year-old girl. He said that in cases like these, the respect for human rights and respect for the law, which has the obligation to pursue those who threaten the safety of citizens, is lost.

Kurti said that if the perpetrator has been convicted of criminal offenses and is found free, the institutional chain also fails. For this reason, according to him, there is no other alternative than vetting in the judicial and prosecutorial system.

He added that only the Democratic League of Kosovo did not accept the invitation for a meeting regarding the vetting. He said that the work started cannot be finished without the vetting./p.s./
