Archaeological excavations in lower Drin valley

TIRANA, September 1/ATA/ The Albanian-French mission led by Dr. Etleva Nallbani, CNRS PARIS and Dr. Elvana Metalla, Archaeological Institute, Tirana conducted important archaeological research in the lower Drin valley for more than 1 month.

After an intensive work, there has been completed the massive cleaning of the vegetation of the archaeological site; it is carried out by cooperation of the Shkodër Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage and the Albanian-French Mission of the “Drin Valley” project, directed by archaeologist dr. Nallbani.

This year the mission has been extended to two representative settlements of the early Middle Ages: the medieval city of Sarda, on the island of Shurdhah, and the settlement of Koman.

The study will bring a new step of data on the Arbëria culture, urbanization, development, and displacement of populations, rituals and the stage of development that these settlements had reached.

The lower Drin valley remains an important region of scientific archaeological research in Albania. /r.e/p.s./
