TIRANA, August 30/ATA/ The centuries-old tradition of making earthenware is gaining special importance with the development of mountain tourism in the Northern area of Puka.
Mayor of Puka Gjon Gjonaj visited today the workshop of the production of pots of Gojan, where he met Shkëlzen Biba, a young man who together with his father are keeping this tradition alive.
Shkëlzeni, a teacher by profession, said that thanks to this job he was able to get an education and settle down in life in his hometown without thinking of leaving, as many young people do these days.
Shkëlzeni has become with its products part of the reflection of Puka’s tradition in different fairs while he has ensured a satisfactory sales market.
During the conversation, Gjonaj encouraged the young man to keep this tradition alive, while it was discussed about the possibility of introducing this clay pot production technique as a teaching subject and the support for the expansion of this activity.
Clay pots are a thousand-year-old tradition known throughout the Balkans. The process of preparing clay vessels goes through several stages from finding the raw material which is soil, then preparing the clay in the workshop and finally putting it on fire.
The special flavors of cooking in clay pots are making them more and more objects on demand./k.s/p.s./
