Tabaku: Energy situation worsened due to mismanagement

TIRANA, August 26/ATA/- Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku stated today that the energy situation in Albania has worsened due to mismanagement.

Tabaku stated in a post on social networks that, “Since September last year, the energy situation in Albania has been deteriorating as a result of mismanagement; the deterioration took even more dramatic proportions the day when Russia decided to attack Ukraine, creating a situation of anxiety that it has already affected every sector of the economy”.

According to her, until now, apart from propaganda and business with Albanians’ taxes, the government has found no other way, but to sell energy cheaper and buy it more expensively.

“Furthermore, in September, the government received Eurobond worth 650 million Euros under more unfavorable conditions than the neighbors to help buy more expensive energy and sell it cheaper. A scheme with the Eurobond systematically repeated over the years during Rama’s government”, emphasized the DP MP.

She added that the government has not engaged in politics to explain how it will act in conditions where domestic production may face a crisis.

“For 8 years in a row, the Rama government had all the opportunities to diversify the energy portfolio. It could create new sources of energy supply, starting from the processing of gas passing through TAP and coming from Azerbaijan to alternative sources such as solar panels. But the government has never considered of pursuing such diversification policies that would have given Albania another development not only in the increase of Foreign Direct Investments, but would have saved the budget from the next crises. Although the drought has been a known phenomenon this summer, the solutions offered by the government remain based on the state budget and Albanian taxes, not on diversification policies”, she said.

Tabaku emphasized that DP has filed a criminal complaint with SPAK regarding abuses of electricity.

“In the end, it will be the citizens who will pay the high price of energy, just as they are paying the price of oil. They will pay it through high taxes, through high bills that will be more a result of the stupidity of this ruling majority that has put its interest before the pocket of the Albanians”, she said./p.s./
