Apple farm in Dishnica is competitive with EU countries

TIRANA, Aug 11 /ATA/ The prefect of the Korça district, Nertil Jole, shared on Thursday the case of an apple farm as an example of success and equal competition with similar plantations in the countries of the European Union.

Together with representatives of the Regional Development Agency Foundation, prefect Jole visited the largest apple farm in Albania. The farm “Sweet Farm”, in the village of Shamoll/Dishnica, encompasses an area of 20 hectares and provides an annual production of 4000 quintals of apples.

“This farm is another excellent testimony to the great potential that our region has, to be a “brand” in the production and export of apples, but also many other fruits,” said Nertil Jole in a post on social media.
The farm uses modern technology, ranging from drip irrigation (the Israeli model), to digital production monitoring systems, to nutrients (non-nitrogen but calcium-based) used as part of regenerative agriculture, which is developed between conventional and organic agriculture.

The farm is all covered with protective nets, a component which has been supported by a grant from the government through ARDA.

While the uncovered part is insured in the insurance company, as a guarantee for compensation for damage from hail and wind.

Also, the Israeli app “AGRIO” provides satellite images to detect various problems related to the health of plants, giving real-time alerts for problematic areas on the farm.
The apple cultivars on this farm are the most popular, such as “Starking Red Delicious”, “Super Chief”, “Modi”, “Fuji Kiku 8”, “Fuji Kiku Fubrax”, “Golden Clone B”. , “Golden Delicious”, “Granny Smith”, “Pink Lady”, “Gala Festival”, “Gala Schniga”, “Renet de Canada”, etc. /j.p/sm/
