TIRANA, Aug 2 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ The Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, otherwise known as the Blue Corridor, is part of the great Mediterranean Corridor 1,560 kilometers at length, a regional and European project with an extraordinary impact, the implementation of which is expected to bring about further economic and social transformation of the country, as well as to facilitate movement in the largest bypass which is the ring road of the Mediterranean.
The Milot-Fier axis project is about to get started. It is part of the Blue Corridor, at the same time part of the European Connectivity Network, which connects Montenegro, Albania and Greece with the Mediterranean ring road that currently stops in the south of Croatia, but in the meantime facilitates the connection with Kosovo, as well as significantly brings the North and the South of Albania closer together.
A meeting was organized on Tuesday by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy for the launch of some of the lots of this Corridor, with the participation of local government representatives, business executives and tourist operators. Prime Minister Edi Rama, who was also present at the meeting, emphasized that the Blue Corridor will serve all the areas around it, as well as propel tourism and agriculture into development.
The Prime Minister also outlined other important projects that are expected to be implemented in the country.
Rama said that this is not about one of the infrastructure works, but about a major work with an extraordinary impact which involves high commitment and large financial volume for its construction.
“It is a long-awaited work for many years. It is a work that we managed to include in the European flow network right from the start. It is a work that we put in the financing line as part of the Berlin Process, but the process took us so long that we decided to go on our own, so luckily it didn’t all go to waste because we were able to receive from WBIF all the necessary assistance, which continues today with the segment Milot-Murriqan. Once the consultation is completed, it will also be subject to the competition process before getting to work on construction site, so from the entrance in Murriqan down to Fier there will be an entire axis of the Blue Corridor that will benefit all the areas nearby, it will directly boost tourism and agriculture, will bring about a further economic and social transformation of our country and will also facilitate the movement itself in the largest bypass, which is the ring road of the Mediterranean,” he added.
Prime Minister expressed his confidence that this project will make Albania much more accessible by land from a tourist point of view and will undoubtedly end this long period of bottlenecks on this axis, especially from the turn of Kamza or Kashari up to Milot , in Lezha and towards Shkodra, where the standards have improved, but the safety problems still remain.
