TIRANA, Aug 1 /ATA/ On Monday, President of the Republic Bajram Begaj received in a meeting the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, who is on an official visit to Albania.
President Begaj expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the Spanish people and government for the great damage caused by the heat wave and massive fires in Spain.
The head of state appreciated the continuous and unsparing support that Spain has given to Albania as part of the European accession process.
“I am confident that during the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, in the second half of next year, the support of Prime Minister Sanchez and the government of Spain will be of critical importance for the negotiation process of Albania’s EU accession,” President Begaj said.
In particular, the President focused on the tense situation in the north of Kosovo, appreciating the Kosovo authorities for the maturity shown, which in close cooperation and coordination with international partners averted a serious provocation for the stability of Kosovo, especially amid the threats and multiple risks for peace and security in our region after the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“Kosovo is now an irreversible political reality, contributing to peace and stability in the region and confirmed not only by more than half of the member states of the United Nations that have recognized it, but also by the International Court of Justice in The Hague, 11 years before,” said the Head of State, making a reference to Kosovo’s membership in international organizations.
At the meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister, President Begaj expressed the confidence that the Spanish government would come up with the appropriate political and diplomatic modalities to facilitate and enable the participation of Kosovo in various European and international organizations, as well as for the visa-free movement of its citizens in the EU space, just like all other citizens of the South-East European region.
