TIRANA, July 22 /ATA/ During the meeting with the Prime Minister in Pogradec, Minister of the Interior, Bledi Çuçi, also shared a message for the mayors of the country, regarding the issue of public security.
He said that the mayors also have an important part to play in the joint work to guarantee public security in their area.
“I have a message for all mayors who must understand that they have a very important part to play in guaranteeing public security in their municipality. I have ordered the police directors in the districts and the chiefs of police stations to set up the Local Security Councils which have started to be active in some municipalities. And in the municipalities where these Local Councils are up and running, the statistics show a decrease in the number of crimes. This cooperation is very important for many crimes that need everyone to be on alert, either crimes against the territory, unauthorized constructions or environmental crimes, as well as other crimes such as the attempt to plant cannabis in different spots,” said Minister Çuçi.
He went on saying that thanks to this cooperation, until today, we have the best track record in terms of the fight against narcotics cultivation in Albania, this was also said by our partners. Similarly, according to the minister, a major step has been taken in control of the territory.
We have a long way to go in this aspect, be it in coordination between the specialized structures that the municipalities have, but above all, in cooperation between the municipalities and the mayors who have an extraordinary role in this point in tandem with the structures of the police. Police officers in community are an integral part of the community. They are trained for this job; receive specific training to be such. And I hope that the good models already built in different municipalities in Albania, will be replicated in all municipalities. It is very important to understand that public security is also your responsibility, as much as it is the police responsibility, as we can never succeed in fighting crime without this cooperation and this coordination with you,” Minister Çuçi said.
