TIRANA, July 20 /ATA/ The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Shkodra made a balance sheet of the number of visitors who have preferred to visit the tourist spots of this Northern Albanian city and in particular the Rozafa Castle.
June happened to be successful in regard to the high number of local and foreign tourists.
“In June, there were 10,358 visitors who chose to have a taste of Rozafa Castle as one of the most favorite destinations during this summer season,” said the Regional Directorate of Shkodra.
In other words, it is about 4,421 more visitors compared to the same period of last year. This high number of visitors shows more interest in cultural tourism and in visiting heritage sites.
Earlier, Regional Directorate of Shkodra reported on the beginning of work on the mapping of the houses declared “Cultural Monuments” and the installation of marble plaques, an initiative that will help visitors in identifying these monuments.
The castle of Rozafa, an attractive place where history, architecture, fantastic landscape are perfectly combined, is more and more surprising the visitors. The requalification of the Rozafa castle through lighting, an investment of the Ministry of Culture, has turned it into a tourist attraction, visited by local and foreign tourists even in the evening.
In the surrounding walls of the castle, which cover about 9 hectares of land, there can be clearly distinguished the constructions of four periods: the Balshais (14th century), the Venetian occupation (15th century), the Ottoman occupation (16th-17th centuries) and the Bushatlins (XVIII-XIX centuries). Built during the Illyrian Kingdom, it is represented by a legend that speaks of the promise kept, the legendary Albanian “Besa”, i.e. the word of honour. During 2021, more than 51 thousand local and foreign tourists visited this castle./p.s./
