TIRANA, July 16 /ATA/ Another two new schools, “John F. Kennedy” and “Mother Teresa” in Kodër Kamëz, will open their doors in September.
They are part of a series of investments that have transformed the area and increased the value of surrounding properties. The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj inspected the stage of adding the finishing touches to the facilities.
“We are very happy how the entire area of Kodër Kamza has transformed. It’s not just this school complex, but we started a little further down, with the new student buildings, occupied since 1997-1998, when the library was also burned down. These are terrible stories of those who today protest for ‘freedom and democracy’, whom we have seen when they governed what they meant by freedom and democracy: Occupy, destroy, burn! In the first term we put a lot of effort into reconstruction of the nurseries and kindergartens in Unit 11, while in this term we have delivered on the most historic promise, we made sure that there are no more two-shift schools,” said Veliaj.
The Mayor broke the good news for the students of the Agricultural University of Tirana, who will move into 8 new university buildings in October. “It is an extraordinary space, designed by the architect Winy Maas, that will be used both by the faculties of UBT and by the community of “start -ups”, he added.
Veliaj called on the political class to put an end to the culture of standing in the way of public works. He underlined that time has shown that who has opposed the projects of Tirana, has lost all the battles. “You remember the debate with the former Rector and various politicians. A politician caused panic when she said that the “Sami Frashëri” school will be relocated to Paskuqan; another one was supposedly concerned about the school here. But this stupidity and hysteria must come to an end. The culture of standing in the way of public works must end! Whoever opposes the projects of Tirana must understand that they have no chance of winning, since they have lost all their battles. We have seen presidents oppose the construction of playgrounds, we have seen prime ministers, former prime ministers, former mayors, we have seen all kinds of characters stand in the way of Tirana, but the progress is irreversible and the result at this stage is 101 to zero in favor of Tirana,” the mayor said.
Thanks to this investment, children in the area will no longer spend time traveling to school by bus, but will have the opportunity to be educated at the school closest to their home.
