TIRANA, July 15/ATA/ During the public consultation on the fiscal amnesty draft law, after the approval of its idea by the public in the First National Consultation, Prime Minister Edi Rama listed some reasons why this amnesty should be done now.
“I remind everyone, especially our international partners that the world is at war and Albania is part of this war. Unlike many other countries, Albania has made a decision with a very high cost and if the war lasts beyond a certain limit, it may become completely unaffordable. Thus, the energy in the international market is approaching 500 Euros per megawatt from 50-60 Euros that was before this crisis. And that is not reflected in the energy bill of families and small businesses. Where does the money for the purchase of energy come from? We are aware that our first package of support for those most affected by inflation has not solved the whole problem, a problem that continues while the package has ended”, said Rama.
Likewise, the prime minister emphasized that the idea of amnesty is a very old idea, not new and has never materialized properly due to a certain internal and external pressure that I believe had reasons that no longer exist today.
“Albania, at the time when other amnesties were tried, was not structured as it is today. Present-day Albania has a number of structures that can efficiently guarantee implementation of the fiscal amnesty. We have thought about amnesty since the first day we came in office 9 years ago, but we did not propose it because we were aware that it was an idea whose time had not come, just like the law on medical cannabis”, said Rama.
He emphasized that, “We made the first proposal after a big disaster hit us, like an earthquake”.
“We have done a 3-year job and that’s why we postponed this process. It would have been much easier to get the votes in the Parliament at that time because first of all the legal framework against money laundering had not yet been created. Today, we have everything settled. Second, the new structures of justice were not yet established, today they are established. The process of fiscalization was not yet established, today it is”, added Rama./p.s./
