Albania’s non-performing loans ratio at 5.44 % in May

TIRANA, July 8 /ATA/ – Albania’s non-performing loans ratio dropped to 5.44% in May, Bank of Albania said on Friday.

Central bank data show that the NPL ratio slightly rose 0.02% compared to the previous month of April.

Albania Non Performing Loans Ratio stood at 5.42 % in April.

Albania’s banking sector has best withstood major challenges in the wake of the devastating earthquake and the pandemic in the past two years. The NPL ratio has maintained a downward trend, while loan ratio is growing at double-digit rates annually.

In its most recent meeting, Albania’s central bank decided to increase its key interest rate to 1.25% from 1% amid heightened inflationary pressures.

The central bank also raised the interest rate on the overnight lending facility to 2.25% from 1.9%, as well as the rate on the overnight deposit facility to 0.25% from 0.1%.

The governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko told a press conference on the monetary policy decision by the Bank’s Supervisory Council that the revised analyses and our updated projections suggest inflation in Albania will continue to remain high during 2022.
