Meta reacts over fiscal amnesty: Back down on this initiative as soon as possible

TIRANA, July 6 /ATA/ – By I.Vata/ President of the Republic Ilir Meta reacted on Wednesday over the fiscal and criminal amnesty proposed by the government.

In his statement, Meta says that he has attentively followed the numerous opinions from local and foreign experts, as well as the official warning of the European Union on the draft law on fiscal and criminal amnesty.

“The opinions over this initiative of the Government sound the alarm that this law would favor the world of crime, paving the way for ill-gotten proceeds to be injected in domestic economy, and especially in the financial market legally; would directly affect law-binding business and free local initiative; would deter serious foreign investments in Albania and consequently would risk criminalizing the entire Albanian society, exposing the country as a destination that favors the activity of international criminal rings and syndicates; It would erode the trust of society in the rule of law, institutions and equality before law and encourage informal economy.”

Meta said that he fully supports all these well-reasoned concerns that sound the alarm over the government’s latest initiative, which have been expressed earlier through the European Parliament Resolution of May 19, 2022.
