Import of construction materials increased by 5.6 %

TIRANA, June 26/ATA/ During the first 5 months of the current year, the value of imports of construction materials increased significantly due to the increase in the market price of iron after the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

However, referring to the data published by INSTAT on foreign trade, the import of construction materials and metals during this period marked an annual increase of 5.6%.

The government appreciated that the sharp rise in prices for construction materials has slowed or halted some public contracts, as further performance would cause significant irreparable losses for construction companies until they go bankrupt.

It was noticed that the level of public investment with domestic financing has slowed down, reaching 14% of the total amount planned for 2022 as compared with 31% during the same period, the first five-months of 2021.

Based on this situation, the government drafted a Normative Act, which sets out the rules for compensation of 5-30% of the price of some building materials that have increased.

During the discussion of this Normative Act in the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Adela Xhemali said that the procedure for determining the compensation is defined in detail and is realized in the form of an additional contract.

“Payment is made in relation with the work performed and after verifying the use of materials specified in this Act, based on the situation of works on the purchase invoice. The compensation of operators that meet the criteria of this Normative Act is made from 5-30% of the contract value “, explained Xhemali./p.s./
