TIRANA, June 17 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama warned the local government that, “We shall enter a phase of tight tolerance regarding arrears”.
The prime minister attended today the conference on “Decentralization and local government finances”.
Rama said that it is very important to underline that the financial discipline of municipalities is more than ever today a necessity in the whole context where we live, but also in the context of what has to do with deepening decentralization as a responsibility, not only as autonomy ”.
“In terms of arrears, as we have actually discussed before, we will enter a phase of tight tolerance based on agreed parameters, of course not in vain. This is necessary because the historical accumulation of debts cannot become an open road for the years ahead. This is impossible “, said Rama.
According to him, “Improvement of the performance of municipalities is a priority for all of us together and there is no way this can happen unless financial discipline is strengthened and municipalities do not intend to increase their financial resources and revenues from the market.”
“It is the most dramatic data of all these 30 years that the volume of activities that directly connect municipalities with the creation of non-budget revenues is minimal, close to 0”, added the prime minister./p.s./
