Protest over rising fuel and food prices in Tirana

TIRANA, June 15 /ATA/ – Dozens of people joined a rally in Tirana on Wednesday to protest over the rise in oil and food prices in the country.

The participants taking part in the protest, called by activists and civil society organizations, gathered first at Tirana’s main Skanderbeg Square and marched along the Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard to stop in front of the Prime Minister’s office.

Protesters called the soaring fuel and food prices unbearable and absurd. With a banner reading “it is no longer bearable,” they called on government to act and mitigate the effects of surging food and oil prices.

The power crisis, followed by Russia’s unprovoked aggression on Ukraine in February, have caused the food and oil prices to soar since the start of the year.
