Rama: Justice Reform, a historical moment

TIRANA, June 13/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that Albania passed through an historical period with the reform it undertook in the justice system.

During the speech he delivered at the National Anti-Corruption Conference in Tirana today, Rama said that, “The justice system was completely gripped by the cancer of corruption; widely rotten and de facto justice system was transformed into a bargain, where the law was sold or bought. And despite the fact that within the system, like everywhere and in every country and in every field, there are competent and honest people, the whole corrupted system made it impossible, both for competent and honest people to be promoted or for ordinary and innocent people to be guaranteed by the justice system ”.

“Thus, we focused on both directions, on the one hand in the reform of the justice system and on the other hand the reform of the system of services”, stressed Rama.

Regarding the reform of the justice system, Rama said that, “Until a few years ago, no one thought that political figures of the highest rank would be punished by justice in this country?”

“Who believed that the day would come when members of the government, elected representatives in local government, MPs, would be investigated and charged by a prosecutor entirely separate from politics and entirely focused on his mission to do justice? And even people of the ruling party”, said Rama.

“We are talking about a system where the powers are divided and where the separation of powers is embodied in the independent activity of the judiciary in relation to the executive power or in relation to the legislative power,” Rama said.

“This is a historical moment beyond all the shortcomings or weaknesses. It is an extremely big challenge and it has never happened,” Rama said./j.p/r.e/p.s./
