PM Kurti: Serbia denies crimes committed in past

PRISHTINA, June 3 /ATA/ – Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated Friday that Serbia keeps denying genocide and the crimes it has committed during the Kosovo war.

Addressing a panel discussion at the Bratislava Forum GLOBSEC 2022 in Bratislava, Kurti underlined that principled Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is needed to lead to a legally-binding agreement on mutual recognition. Kosovo’s government head also commented on the Open Balkan initiative, saying his country supports the Berlin Process.

Kurti also highlighted the war crimes and the NATO intervention to stop Serbia’s genocide in Kosovo.

“We need a principled dialogue between equal parties, for a legally binding-agreement on full normalization of relations with Serbia, focusing on mutual recognition. Unfortunately, Serbia is saying that they will never recognize us and apart from this they do not even recognize the crimes committed in the past and, to be honest, the latter insults us much more than the first,” Kurti said.

According to Kurti, denial of the crimes committed by Serbia is the essence of the problem.

PM Kurti also said that Kosovo expects a positive response from the Council of Europe after the country’s application  for membership in the European rights watchdog.
