TIRANA, May 29/ATA/ Tiranathlon, the sporting event that combines the three most popular and practiced disciplines in a single competition: swimming, cycling and running, was held today in its second edition in Tirana.
Hundreds of local and foreign athletes, who competed for 3 prizes in each of the disciplines, started the race from Farka Lake Park at 08:00 in the morning and closed it at 12:00, right where it all started.
Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj stated at the award ceremony for the winners that Tirana today is becoming an example of organizing events of European proportions, and is even doing better than large and developed capitals in Europe.
“Yesterday, it was a special moment because the UEFA Champions League final was taking place in Paris, but started an hour late. 15 thousand people entered without tickets and all the fans of the world were saying: “It does not organize an event for sports better than Tirana does. Today Tirana is number one in all organizations. It is not a matter of money; it is not a matter of economic size; it is not a matter of population, it is a matter of commitment and our team, starting from Costa and the Greek Embassy, to our youngest volunteer Kei. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for a super activity, “said Veliaj.
The mayor also highlighted the fact that among athletes from 14 different countries of the world, such as Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Britain and America, there were athletes from Ukraine, too.
Tiranathlon is a joint organization of the Municipality of Tirana with the Greek Embassy in Tirana, which with this activity closed the Greek Week in the capital. As a result of this organization, there was a traffic suspension on some main roads of Tirana, as well as the non-functioning of some bus lines.
