Saranda port reports increase in ferry passenger numbers in April

TIRANA, May 15 /ATA/ – Maritime transport has shown signs of significant recovery as most pandemic-related restrictions on travellers from Albania to Greece have been lifted.

The number of maritime transport passengers from and to Albania’s southern port of Saranda and Greek port of Corfu has significantly increased in April.

Official data from Saranda Port Directorate show that a total of 8693 passengers have travelled between Saranda and Corfu during April.

As many as 4359 travellers, 1150 of them of Albanian nationality and 3209 foreign visitors have entered the territory of Albania via Saranda port last month.

According to regional tourism office in Saranda, more than 750 000 tourists visited the southern coastal town last year.

The coastal town of Saranda is considered the unofficial capital of the Albanian Riviera. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, for many reasons: the town is near the border with Greece – directly across the Ionian Sea from the island of Corfu – and it has plenty of gorgeous beaches.
