TIRANA, May 11 /ATA/ – Albania’s central bank governor Gent Sejko said Wednesday that an expected fiscal amnesty can be beneficial, but it should be implemented prudently in order to avoid proceeds of crime and corruption.
Presenting the main findings of the Bank of Albania’s Annual Report 2021 to the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance, Sejko noted that rigorous measures should be adopted and put in place by the Ministry of Finance and Economy so that fiscal evasion remains at lowest possible rate after the fiscal amnesty.
According to Sejko, the fiscal amnesty should be well-though and functional.
“The amnesty would come at a cost, but it would also be beneficial. The fiscal amnesty would increase liquidity injections to the economy, but it would also formalize the economy,” Sejko said.
According to central bank governor, the fiscal amnesty would also increase the budget revenue from the tax due to be levied.
