TIRANA, May 9/ATA/ The number of physical counters in the administrative units of Tirana has been reduced from 60 to 20, transferring most of the services online.
Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj held a meeting with the heads of the administrative units of the capital, with whom he talked about the government’s decision to digitalize administrative services and the benefits this brings to citizens.
“If it were not for the determination of the prime minister, we would continue to be the 127th country in terms of digitalization of services. The fact that, in two governance terms, from the 127th place we are in 17th place in the ranking implies that it is up to us to be even in a better position. The government’s willingness to digitalize administrative services then renders into a society that is more adaptive to the digital culture. Of course, we do not want this to happen drastically, we want to do it gradually, and this is the reason why in our administrative units we will move from 60 counters to only 20”, said Veliaj.
He said that despite the closure of the counters, their employees will continue to work, certainly being trained how to respond to online requests of citizens and issue certificates, certificates or other services. Veliaj underlined that, together with the National Agency of Information Society, there will start the training of employees who will not serve at the counters.
“Part of the staff will be there to assist the citizens, to teach them how to get the service online,” he added.
Businesses will also benefit from the digitalization of services. Veliaj stated that the Tax Directorate will offer its services online. The Municipality of Tirana has undertaken several other projects in order to digitalize services, such as “Star 3” or “One stop shop”, for services that are exclusively in the municipal level. He also mentioned the application “My Tirana”, which has been improved and supplemented with other information services for citizens./r.e/p.s./
