Environment Minister visits exhibition “Re:Waste”: Swedish model for waste recycling

TIRANA, April 15 /ATA/ – “Around 95% of waste can be recycled and reused, but all it takes is a change to the mindset,” Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro said as she visited “Re: Waste” exhibition together with Lezhe Mayor Pjerin Ndreu, and the Swedish Ambassador to Albania , Elsa Hastad.

According to Kumbaro, the exhibition, which was launched in the city of Lezhe, north-western Albania, with the support of the Swedish Embassy, aims at educating and building a model of waste recycling as a necessity in waste management solutions.

“The exhibition will travel to schools to promote a culture of reuse and recycling,” she added.

“The question we ask ourselves is, should I really throw this away, or can I still use it, can I still use it? Can you reuse it for something else? As I see these lampshades, pieces of planks that may have been a crate and have now become lampshades. Can it be recycled? About 95% of the waste can be recycled if the separation is done at the source. And we do not need to take them all to landfill. Which means that the municipality also saves money because the municipality pays for every tons that it deposits there “, Kumbaro noted.
