TIRANA, April 13 /ATA/ Regional cooperation, especially between customs administrations, is very important for trade facilitation.
The project titled “Support for Regional Economic Integration” is providing assistance in the field of Authorized Economic Operators to CEFTA structures in their efforts to advance regional economic integration and alignment with European Union legislation.
The General Director of Customs, Genti Gazheli, during a workshop, which is taking place in Tirana, underlined the fact that this pilot validation project is implemented only a few months after the submission of the AD request to the CEFTA Secretariat for recognition and validation of the Economic Operators program.
Gazheli also underlined the importance of participating in the meeting of representatives of Kosovo Customs and expressed confidence that with the implementation of the pilot project, cooperation in the region on the recognition of Authorized Economic Operators will go to another level.
Regarding the achievements of the customs administration, Gazheli said that in recent years the Albanian Customs has worked intensively to draft Implementing Provisions for the new Customs Code, aiming not only to approximate Albanian legislation with that of the EU, but also to introduce new procedures envisaged by the latter, which underscore the need for greater cooperation in the Customs-Business binomial.
“Albania has widely aligned customs legislation with the EU acquis in the field of customs and has also moved ahead with the implementation of the program on Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) by authorizing the first 8 economic operators in 2021. Almost all services provided by customs authorities and economic operators as well as the storage of information are done using electronic platforms “, said Gazheli.
