TIRANA, March 30/ATA/ The Albanian government approved today the hunting moratorium for the next 5 years.
Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro made the announcement after the government meeting.
“The public and the media are familiar with the fact that there were two moratoria before, 2014- 2016 and 2016-2021, which expired last year”, she said.
Kumbaro said that in 2016, the census found about 60 thousand species of wild birds in the habitats of the Albanian ecosystem, while in 2021 there were about 140 thousand such individuals.
According to her, all these wild bird individuals that populate the habitats of protected areas or habitats in forests and other natural areas of Albania, in addition to the ecosystem and natural resources also contribute to the preservation of the environment throughout the territory of Albania.
“On the other hand, the announcement of this moratorium has a significant effect; it significantly limits issuing of a hunting weapon permit. In the first two years, thanks to this moratorium, over 800 hunting weapons were seized in 2015-2016. There has been a total ban on hunting activity by foreign hunters, who at a time when there was no moratorium came frequently to hunt, but also used illegal means of hunting”, said Kumbaro./k.s//a.a/p.s./
