Whistle-blowing scheme for pay under-reporting in the pipeline

TIRANA, Feb 26 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Saturday that the government is discussing safeguards for all those employees who will report cases of employers under-reporting the pay or other types of informality.

Prime Minister Edi Rama during a meeting held in Dibra as part of the National Consultation that “this scheme will address the cases of employees who have a certain salary on record and receive less in net pay. We have identified cases when the employee is forced to return to the employer a certain share of the pay. “They refuse to speak out because they are afraid, because the employer can sack them,” Rama said.

According to him, the government’s commitment is to stand by these employees, not just for their rights.

“The question is: if an employee does his job, reports the employer and he is penalized for breach of the employment contract and shortly after that employee is dismissed, should the state tell this employee: do not accept abuse with wage, pension and social security. “In case you will be affected in retaliation for speaking up, you will be entitled to legal and financial support,” said Rama.

The scheme for providing this type of support is in the pipeline, PM Rama said.
