TIRANA, February 9/ATA/ Justice Minister Ulsi Manja attended today presentation of the new Deputy General Director of the Post Office Laureta Omeri and who at the same time is Coordinator of General Directorate of Anti-Corruption in the Ministry of Justice.
In his speech, the Minister of Justice pointed to one of the oldest wounds of this system, that of interfering in the payments of the pensioners.
“We need to clean this institution of a mentality that is hurting us every day. We must say it openly: The most favourite job in the Albanian Post Office is the cashier at the counter, i.e. where pensions and social assistance are provided. No one goes to look for work where letters, envelopes, correspondence are handled. Everyone wants to be a cashier. They prefer to be the cashier because of the pension distribution system deducting 200 lekë from one pension or 1000 lekë when they send it home to pensioner”, said Manja.
Based on the information received in advance from the Anti-Corruption Directorate, he spoke about an almost mandatory agreement between cashiers and citizens.
“The pensioner, the invalid, the person who comes to the counter receives an envelope, signs it and in most cases does not even count the money, because there is a tacit agreement with the cash thieves. But, theft start here. Here where we are today. Corruption from the bottom goes up, not from the top down. Someone keeps them at work,” said the Minister of Justice. /r.e/p.s./
