TIRANA, Feb 8 /ATA/ / This year will be of great importance not only for Tirana as the European Youth Capital, but also for the 18 newest citizens, who swore allegiance to the Albanian state and the Constitution of Republic of Albania.
The foreign citizens who have acquired the Albanian citizenship were mainly from Turkey, Serbia, Romania, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Libya.
Mayor Veliaj said that this is a special year for Tirana. “Regardless of age, your birthday with Albanian citizenship is today. But beyond humor, I want to make sure that after going through all this, we have more time in our hands to stay together with each one of you joining the community of young and old Albanians,” he said.
Veliaj underlined that despite two subsequent difficult years due to pandemic restrictions, Albania managed to recover stronger than before. We have seen two years like no other, first the earthquake and then the pandemic, but the fact that you have been part of our community in challenging times, means that we will be together in the beautiful days ahead. “I am glad to see many children alongside their parents, and maybe they became Albanians before you because they were born here, however I am glad that today the whole family will be complete and I want to welcome them,” he declared.
The mayor stated that Tirana is the city of 144 diverse nationalities from all over the world.
“Tirana is the city of 144 diverse nationalities, however it is a great joy to see a part of them choose this community, choose to be citizens of Albania and share the nationality with Scanderbeg and Mother Teresa, said Veliaj.
The mayor read out the oath formula for 18 citizens who acquired the Albanian citizenship.
