Balluku: Energy-efficiency projects, an indispensability

TIRANA, January 27/ATA/ Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku stated today that, “Projects of electricity efficiency are a necessity, especially in the conditions of energy crisis, when the whole world is exposed today to high energy prices, but also to the absence of energy in the markets ”.

Addressing the Assembly, Balluku stressed that, the draft law on ratification of the loan agreement in the amount of 20 million euros, between the Republic of Albania (borrower) and KfW Frankfurt am Main (KfW), aims at energy efficient rehabilitation of student dormitories of the public universities in Albania”.

“This agreement, continued the Minister, is important not only in terms of energy efficiency, but also in terms of implementation of the ‘Pact with the University'”, said Balluku.

“The projects aim to save energy in the rehabilitated student buildings and, on the other hand, to provide students with adequate living conditions and at a reasonable cost. Energy efficiency has taken on a special significance and this is not the first project. We have started the implementation of efficiency projects in state-owned facilities such as hospitals, schools or institutions. Today, the Ministry of Energy is working on one of the facilities that was first introduced in the energy efficiency project, starting from the production of energy from solar panels to the way of lighting in our ministry building. We have applied this model in the hospital of Lezha, in schools and so we will continue with the dormitories “, declared Balluku.

The Minister stressed that the government, in addition to a plan of measures to guarantee uninterrupted supply of electricity and at a constant price that protects household subscribers and small and medium business, has also launched the National Plan for energy efficiency.

“According to the new legislation, if a company decides to build, it must be provided with a permit for energy efficiency. While large companies are undergoing the audit process of energy efficiency”, said the Minister, while noting that,” a number of important projects are being implemented and supported by the state budget in terms of efficiency, such as the case of community facilities, which will be subject to projects of this type, thus affecting a significant reduction in energy consumption.

Balluku said that in Albania on average the needs for electricity are about 14 MWh per day. In the last week, due to weather problems, we have an increase of 80% in energy demand, as we have reached the consumption of 24 MWh per day./a.a/r.e/p.s./
