DP leader testifies before prosecutors over 8 Jan violent protest

TIRANA, Jan 14 /ATA/ – The main opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha on Friday was questioned by Tirana prosecutors over the 8 January violent protest at the PD headquarters.

Speaking to reporters after testifying before prosecutors, DP leader called on law enforcement bodies “to immediately identify the perpetrators of acts of violence and bring them before justice.”

“Violence was orchestrated, masterminded and ordered by Sali Berisha and a group of mercenaries and criminals that represent a criminal organization. DP supporters were called in to be used as a facade. A small part of supporters heeded the call, but the majority distanced themselves from acts of violence,” Basha said.

Opposition supporters clashed with each other as they tried to storm their party headquarters last Saturday following an internal fight for the party leadership.

Police intervened using a water cannon truck and anti-riot police members to push protesters away from the building following a request from the DP officials.
