Puppet Theater building to undergo restoration

TIRANA, January 12/ATA/ The historical National Puppet Theater building will soon undergo restoration.

Minister of Culture Elva Margariti said that, “The work will begin very soon on restoration of the historical building of Tirana Puppet Theater, in context of the EU4Culture Albania programme and implemented by UNOPS”.

The ‘EU4Culture’ programme seeks to remedy the effects of the 2019 earthquake in Albania by rebuilding and rehabilitating its cultural heritage.

The earthquake of November 26, 2019 caused damage to this monumental building. The project includes the restoration of the roof, masonry and preservation of the original elements.

The premises of the “Puppet Theater” was first built by the Austrians and then in 1925 and the rest of the building was completed by the Albanian state. During the years 1925-1944, it served as the seat of the Albanian Parliament and later this building served as the seat of the Anti-fascist National Liberation Council. After the end of the WWII, this building also served as the Pioneers’ House and then finally the Puppet Theater was placed in it as it serves today./k.s//a.a/p.s./
